Durian puffs ala Chef Seow

Made some Durian Puffs a week ago...tasted great when it came out fresh from the oven...

Gave some away to all my SGPean' peeps, not sure for they liked it because I haven't had any feedback yet...But I guess they say no news is good news eh?

Will try it with a different pastry the next time round...the puff pastry got soft the next day...a little dissapointing. But too much work to make from scratch lah...As for the Durian filling....it was the real stuff- cooked with coconut cream and I also added Pandan. Damn shiok. Wish you were here to taste it!

memoirs and tribute to AhKong Part One

POST IN PROGRESS
Ok...Ok...I'm finally 'PROGRESSING' on this particular blog entry after some time. I'm apologetic to all of you reading and anticipating this entry, and I must say I got myself stumped on this one. It's just one of those "where do I begin" kinda things.
Since it's only Part One, out of God knows how many parts...I guess what my intentions are for this entry to put in black and white(tho' in cyberspace), my recollections of my youth and the times spent growing up in Teng Tong Road and mainly to give thanks to my dear AhKong for all that he has given me while growing up. In short, I would like to say or let him read it while he's still 'around', rather than have any regrets later.(I hope I'm not sounding morbid)
Part One:
Ah Kong was always there when you needed He-Man toys(which I think it's so gay at this point of time), the Atari 2600(yes folks-the piece of junk was pretty pricey in the 80s'), the whole MASK toy collection, amongst many other baubles of kiddy joys which I fail to remember...
You gave me what any kid at that time could ask for...and I thank you for spoiling me because Mom+Dad never did...(hohoho). I recall Mom once told you not to buy me anymore, but you refused and said, "I got only one grandson!"
When I become a grandpa one day, I wanna do the same. I'm gonna be the same cool grandpa...

fancy lunch at Halekulani etc...

Another 2 days off yet again, and always enjoyable as usual. Hard to believe once again but it's already November...How time flies.

We had a delicious 2 hour lunch at the Halekulani Hotel(one of Oahu's better hotels). It so happened that 2 other associates whom I work with have second jobs here, so they invited me for lunch. In all honesty, I have little care for Hotel type food, mainly because I work in one and have come to a conclusion that they're all pricey and overhyped. I was proved wrong at the Halekulani though, where we had a magnificient 3 course lunch at Orchids(name of restaurant). I guess IT IS the food and all round dining experience that sets them apart from the rest of lodging clutter in Waikiki. For more details check out Poopie's blog for the menu du jour... http://yukape.blogspot.com/

Me at Orchids at Halekulani comparing Mai Tais...

The lawn and the million dollar view from our table at the restaurant...SWEET!

After the lunch, we took a stroll along Waikiki-or should I say acting like tourists...Passing through places like DFS(to poke fun on Poopie's country-men), the Duke Kahanamoku Statue at Kuhio Beach, Hyatt amongst others...

"Hands off my ass, fat cat!"

If you see my eyeballs...it would be in the same position as fat cat's...

Me and poops striking a pose at Hyatt...

Nihonjins are pretty kinky peeps...here's one with a serious foot fetish...

All in all, it was an enjoyable outing...
