Give me an A pretty please

I just came across this memo I worte to one of my Professors right before my final exam...think he gave me an A. Enjoy...

To: Professor Rosegg
From: Mark

Date: 04/25/03
Subject: Persuasive Memo- Why Mark deserves an “A”

Let me first express my gratitude for your guidance in the BUS 309 class. Not only has your class been enriching, it had broaden my writing skills. With your sharing of your industry experience and humor, I have no doubt gained much insight into writing better letters, soliciting for better wages and potentially getting a more satisfying job as a whole in the near future. Without a doubt, I, along with many students in your class, will gain from your teaching in time to come.

Flattery will probably not land me an “A” in this case. However, I have a list of many great reasons as to why I should deserve one for your class. Of course, the final outcome would solely depend on your impartial and gracious decision. With that in mind, I fully trust you would be. The first good reason as to why I ought to get an “A” is on the basis of my timeliness in handing up assignments. You may have noticed that I have been extremely consistent and diligent in fulfilling datelines that were set. As much as possible, I do try my very best to hand in assignments within 2-3 days after it has been assigned. In the business world, this I believe, is very important. Therefore, I see the need to gear myself up for this very purpose. Timeliness is one factor, along with that comes my ability to fulfill my work with the utmost quality. Past experience in the hospitality industry has built up my acute eye for details. You will see that my work displays minimal grammar mistakes, and the content is both rich and pleasing to read. I will accept no less than an “A” should you judge it by literary content. I suppose you must have enjoyed reading it as I have yet to receive any secondary emails that request corrections. Thirdly, you may notice I position myself right in the front of the class. This is solely because I want to give full attention to every word you say. I fully empathize with teachers who teach “dry” subjects, have students dozing off in class which can be a tad discouraging. The list of reasons goes on and on, and I can assure you I would be more than willing to produce more should you request it. However, considering the busy schedule from your good work at HECO, I will pause till I receive the go-ahead from you. Nevertheless, you can already conclude that I am absolutely worthy of a good grade. Please feel free to “sign on the dotted line.”

Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. There was a good balance of group work, class interaction and interesting power-point slides with sound effects. Learning was conducive in the environment that you had created, and I honestly gain much from the course. All in all, I can see no further improvements that may be made to this existing informative class. Your guidance and teaching will be remembered for a lifetime. Finally, I seek your generosity in your grading decision. Mahalo loa nui and Aloha.

Hotel Worker's Rant?

I just came to stark realisation that nowadays I hardly write or rant about work...perhaps I'm becoming numb to it all, or maybe I'm going to one of those shove-it-already state of mind. Whatever it is, I think I tend to write more on my gluttony than on anything else.

Perhaps to time to change the title of the blog?

Perhaps I have to watch my waistline too?

Grindz at Cafe Miro

Poops and me had yet another wonderful dinner during our days off. It's highly enjoyable when you know your partner and you have little or no restrictions to food whatsoever and that the both of us enjoy nothing more than having a good meal. I think eating good is probably top of my list when it comes to the top ten things to do for pleasure in my life. It's the Singaporean thing too I guess eh?
Back to the blog post...we went to Cafe Miro along Kaimuki-a nice little quaint cafe/bistro type atmosphere. Menu featured a 3 and a 4 course daily offering for whatever that's fresh for the day. In Hotel or F&B terms, it's called a menu degustation...(show-off...)
Anyway, we started with a amuse-bouche or a petit taster from the chef. It was a real good chilled cream of carrot potage. Very refreshing... (Sorry no picture-was hungry and wipe it all in 3 seconds. Along with that, we ordered the Foie Gras Pate with came with warm crusty bread. In the Pate, we could see bits of truffle with flavored the Pate beautifully. A definite must have and a steal for only $6...Yum...
If you think the pictures looks a little blurry, sorry eh...I was trying to be arty-farty...For the appertiser, I had the Ahi Carpaccio with a miso citrusy dressing. The dressing was just right with a right of tanginess and I could tell the ahi was real fresh. Along with it came a handful of micro greens which work perfectly with the dish.

The entree I picked was the Confit of Duck, with a asian inspired demi-glace that came with sides of a potato galette and marinated greens. The Confit of Duck was done perfectly, seared crisp on the outside and fork tender on the inside.(Exactly the way I would cook it)...The sauce accented the duck nicely, and kept it very light and flavorful. Definitely will return someday to makan this one again if it's on the menu....

That's Poops and her appertiser....She had the four course, while I had the three...because you know, these tiny little girls, they all got big eyes but small stomach ah...so I try to stay on the safe side and order 3 course just incase she passes me her leftovers...(You can read her write-up on her blog...)And GUYS! STOP STARING AT THE BOOBS...(push up bra lah....)
To end it off sweetly, we received a trio of desserts featuring some real light fluffly Nihon-style cheesecake, creme brulee, and a home made raspberry sorbet. I think you can pretty much imagine how I felt about dessert folks....

Well folks, if you're in the area, lets make a date and we can go out makan...but to the rest of you reading back home...eh....just enjoy the pictures....

TGIF

Thank Goodness it's Friday yet again...well, technically today is Tuesday, but it's my 'Friday'. Off for the next 2 days...Hope I didn't confuse you...

Honolulu marathon saw big crowds in Waikiki, all in all about 27,000 people were here for the marathon. Not too much buisness at the bar because I guess these fit runner type people don't drown themselves in booze too often. So yeah despite the huge amount of people around, buisness was pretty slow. Most amusing thing was that the very day saw many people limping around after completing(or not) the marathon while walking to work. Personally, I would opted to take the bus and still get a awful orange 'FINISHER' T-shirt...Anywayzz...

Motley Crue was in house at the hotel. Cool! They were one of my fave bands while growing up in my HEAVY METAL phase of youth. Vince Neil is a really cool friendly guy, pretty down to earth.(Not to mention tips good as well). Along with him were a couple of skanky lookin ladies(blonde and fake boobs of course)...Darn, wish you were a ROCK STAR eh? Wanted to ask for a picture but hmmm...then again his bodyguard seemed kinda big...ALong with Nikki Sixx, those guys were pounding back Valdadige Vineyard's Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio bottle after bottle at the bar...those f**kers can drink man...

Well...so much for the updates folks, will enjoy my 2 days off... ROCK ON.

Hong Kong still makes bad movies

Watched Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle on DVD yesterday night. Got a 'kick' out of it cuz it has been such a long time since I watched a Chinese movie. I've always enjoyed Stephen Chow's mindless slapstick comedy since young and this was no different. If you're expecting a Schindler's List storyline from it then forget it, if not just watch it for the mindless fun.

In short, Hong Kong still makes sucky movies content wise but I hope they don't change it anytime soon.

Absolut Bizarre...

I had the most bizarre dream the other night.

WARNING: MATERIAL BELOW HAS INAPPROPRIATE SUBJECT CONTENT CONTAINING HUMAN WASTE AMONGST OTHER ITEMS OF GROSS NATURE. IF THE FOLLOWING OFFENDS YOU, DO NOT READ FURTHER.

In the dream, I had to take a shit real bad. So, enter a public restroom(location unknown), looked pretty decent with the regular stalls and urinals. I really had to take a shit bad, I probably was twitching in my sleep. Swung open the door of the first stall and discovered shit bits all over the floor.

No fear, will try the next stall...Entered the next stall, saw more poop all over the place including the walls...ALL OVER THE FREAKIN PLACE...tried to pull on the flush to flush the waste material down but instead more shit overflowed all over the place....freaked out when the shit made contact with foot. URGH.

REALLY REALLY had to shit. Last resort and worst case scenario was the urinal, wanted to put my butt close enough but without touching it to excrete. Got even more grossed out when I saw a pile of poop already there(actually saw such a thing in real life in a public toilet somewhere)....URGH. Finally woke up.

BIZARRE! The dream might have a hidden meaning? Mind you, it really did freak me out because it was shittingly graphic in the dream.

Shit.

November in Retrospect

The month of November came and went so quickly. In essense, it had been a fruitful month full of progression on the workfront.

Thanksgiving proved to be busy for the hotel where we saw overbookings at the restaurant's thanksgiving buffets(yea...I had my leftover turkey dinner after which), and of course the bar was being its usual busy self. Better and more detailed planning saw smooth operations flow without any hiccups. THANK goodness.

The motnh of Novemeber also saw numerous appreciation cards and great guest comments personally. Made yet many a return customer, and on top of which, received gifts from some. Here's a run down:

1 bottle Chateau Motelena Zinfandel from Mr. Aldrige(California)
1 $10 phone card from Fred and Sheila(London, England)-Great couple whom had been coming back to the hotel every year for the last 15 years. Got me a phone card to get me to call homemore often....'Lectured' this young chap on the importance of calling your mom and dad...so I promised them will call this Sunday.
3 thank you cards(I cannot recall who they were coz I meet so many people everyday...oops)
2 official commendations via hotel email
1 plate lunch
2 tickets to the Honolulu Symphony(gave it away cuz I had to work) from Aunty Maryanne.(regular guest)

Well...the hotel buiness has its perks...It's nice to feel appreciated beyond monetary rewards(if any). Maybe that's why I still do what I do...
