Birthdays...

Seen on sms- " What are you up for your birthday to this Friday?" From S. Noni

Dude....thanks for remembering but it's the wrong month....jeeee. Besides, no grand banquets please...I wanna stay forever 21. thanks.

FYI-I don't celebrate birthdays anymore, but all gifts are welcomed. And absolutely no birthday candles this year, along with the usual sing-a-long sessions from staffers in the restaurants. eeeks.

Howz my weekend?

Friday-Poured cats and doggies on the way home, skipped painting the town red. My tiny little brolly almost gone blown away. Caught a couple DVDs', endulging in some quiet time. So here's a quick DVD review :

Full Metal Jacket- Go watch it ,you maggots!

Little Miss Sunshine- simple, low budget with a light hearted plot. Appreciate a good storyline. I still think VWs' wagons are rad.

Saturday- Went jalan jalan at little India...how ethnic. Soaking in the sights and sounds( not to mention aromas) of the place, had a South and North Indian meal with all the works at Sree Sagar. Adjourned to Mustafa Center...they sell pretty much every goddarn thing there is to sell. Checked out the Desker Road 'babes'. Good to see some things don't change. Headed down to Old Bedok Road for some Chent Tng but found out they were closed. DRAT! Plan B was Blooie's down at Jalan Tua Kong for a pool outing. Still haven't lost my pool skills.

Sunday- Spend some time at the Asian Civillizations Museum. Pity we didnt wear red, or else we could have saved on the admission charges. Mystery Men of China was on exhibit. ooooooooo..... Not particularly interested in archeological atifacts from prehistoric China, but enjoyed some of the performances going on. There was an mythical Indian one with the rapid eye and eyebrow movement. It hurts....cause silly me went to try to replicate them. cool. Caught the Thai ensemble from the NUS. Cool. Pity the locals made up for less than 10% of the crowd...if i could call it a crowd. Went down to Central-yeap...yet another shopping mall situated at the Clarke Quay MRT station. Lotsa shops yet to open, but had some fab Ramen at Muratama Ramen. I'm glad to see more up and coming authentic Japanese Ramen places opening in SG. Their's was a chicken based broth(flavorful yet light enough for the palate), and most importantly, the ramen was cooked al dente. Had mine with Kakuni Buta(stewed pork in sweet mirin and shoyu). And the kakuni was definitely done ala Nippon. Tender, juicy with a delectable amount of fat. Wish I had pics. Dessert- Azabu Sabo's Hokkaido Ice Cream. I had a black sesame while Pokey had the Green tea. Plopped ourselves on the steps along the SG river and watched the world go by. Lovely.

Howz yours?

*squeak*

I've officially lost my voice today. Definitely not the best thing in the word since 90% of my occupation requires me to interact.

Never eat a whole can of Garlic Macadamia Nuts all in one seating.

how's my weekend?

Friday- went to Double O, realised Mohd Sultan has lost much of its lustre as a clubbing hub. Crowds have moved on the more popular MOS...St James....etc. Now becoming a mini Japan with all it's numerous Japanese eateries due to the expats living around. Shitty drinks and my general sentiments aside, still had a jolly time. Partly reminising of the times I slept, fought, puked at the venue. There's this cool looking Cigar Divan I wanna check out the next time tho....oh and maybe go for some Sapporo Ramen prior. Good stuff

Saturday- Caught 300 at Vivocity. Stuffed my face with a less than healthful Double Bacon Cheeseburger from Carl's Jr. Thanks a million Carl, for more obese Singaporean kids with chronic diseases. 300 the movie, gave it 2 thumbs up! Typical boy movie with blood, gore and camadaderie. SPARTANSSSSS!!!!! At least, now I know Leonidas is not just a brand of chocolate truffles.

Sunday- went to church. YES...you heard right. Refreshing experience. Never attended a service from a Pastor from Columbia. Hats off to his mimicking translator. Managed to shut up in church and sound blasphemous. Amen to that. Went jalan jalan after which. Had crap sushi dinner at Genki @ Marina. Still eating the usual crap SPicy Tuna Temaki, altho the ones in HI are still better.

Karaoke Staples- The Official Ah Beng Anthem

You are what you eat- Questionnaire

1) If you were stuck on an island and could only eat one cuisine (e.g., French, Italian, etc.) for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?

Japanese, and Singaporean....I assume I can spear some fish, have sashimi after that....while the heads will be made into fish head curry, with coconut milk from the trees, curry powder ....errr....found in a washed up treasure chest nearby. Also, would make laksa from dried up shrimp.

2) What is the most unusual food you've eaten?

hmmm....I can't think of any extraordinary( to me at least). I don't think anything is unusual if it is deemed consumable. I've had my fair share of the stuff less eaten.

3) What is the most unusual food you've eaten and liked?

I hate to say this but dog meat. I was tricked.

4) What foods will you avoid eating (either because of a dietary choice or allergies or just plain don't like)?

Bittergourd. Balut. Deer Penis(or any sort of penis for that matter) all else ok.

5) Do you cook (and by that, I mean prepare a meal that you'd serve to friends)?

Heck yeah...and I think I'm a pretty darn good one. Sure. Did that all the time in the U.S. Only now, I'm limited by my mom's kitchen, and unable to abide to her cleaning standards. Thus reducing my cooking opportunities in Singapore...

6) If yes, what is your favorite dish to prepare to impress someone?

hmmm....too many. A simple Ku Lok Yuk will do fine. Or a little more extravagant. A duck confit with yuzu cous cous and micro greens. Yum.

7) When you go to a restaurant, what's your ordering strategy/preference?

No set menu items, no buffets please. Anything else that catches the eye. I like trying new stuff. Stuff I've never seen or had before.

8) Have you ever returned a dish or wine to the kitchen at a restaurant? Why?

Steaks not cooked to the doneness I wanted. Uncooked fish which required to be eaten cooked....list goes on.

9) How many cookbooks do you own?

3. The best one being the Culinary Institute of America one....and Escoffier's. Apart from that. thank god for the World Wide Web

10) What is one food that you wouldn't want to live without?

What else? RICE. And maybe Lay's Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips. With Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup Ice cream coming in a close second....

Poem

Euthanasia, Anaesthesia, Fantasia
Sights in Asia
My pussy's for hire
Navigating your flat tyre
Suck you dry and make you tire
I'm not on fire
Whoring's not my desire
One too many Oscar Myer
Just wanna get higher
Shot some up prior
Feels mightier
Feels lighter
Feels warmer
Any buyer
for a cunt for hire
I know my life's dire
So Euthanasia
put me on a pyre
No Anaesthesia
I know I ain't a cryer
Bloody take me to Fantasia
